My Eyes are Good at Squinting by Makoto Kata
my eyes got good at squinting
in LA, you can barely see the stars but i know they’re there
so on the rooftop of my garage, i practiced looking for them i was challenged searching for proof
but i know they’re there
i see beautiful scarce twinkling dim and subtle
in the darkness, i stare into the sky enveloped by night, i squint and search
i see every constellation, i have the whole milky way i am engulfed by their warmth
my skin is seared, i am left burned and broken
surrounded by streetlights, i get to practice squinting again i am cold, the stars are far
my eyes are very good at squinting
